In this paper, a theoretical framework for developing Food Competence in compulsory education is presented. The approaches involved initially lead us to leave the school context and move into daily life in order to find out what the current situation in our society is. Thus, it was possible to focus on those aspects which are more necessary and which are found in greatest need with a view to act on them specifically. Based on the definition of human nutrition and the limits of this context, the Food Competences that a citizen should have are characterized in this paper. As a result, the framework for its development in compulsory education is described. It has been organized around seven axes: food, the body’s work regarding nutrition, cooking, growing and processing food, buying groceries, eating with others, physical activity and rest.
