Abstract

This paper presents the research project “Key competencies developed in educational leisure relevant to school success and improving the employability of young people”, subsidised under the call for proposals launched by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality. The aim of the research was to increase knowledge of the effects that participation at educational leisure spaces and/or open/socio-educational centres has had on young people who, when children and teenagers, took part in these types of projects, as regards educational success and/or the development of employability skills. The methodology used to conduct the study (DEXPLIS) was a mixed (quantitative-qualitative) sequential explanatory analysis. In-depth interviews were conducted with young people who had participated in the facilities,  as well as their educators, teachers and employers; and questionnaires were administered to children and young people currently participating. The data was collected simultaneously in four Spanish regions where the study was implemented (Catalonia, Madrid, Balearic Islands and Valencia). The early results from the research have enabled indicators to be designed that generate the initial detection of good practice and, at the same time, guide professionals in those key aspects that they should consider in order to improve their everyday practice.
