Transformacions de les xarxes més que humanes i l’impacte dels objectes materials en les obres de mitjans tàctics

Des de finals del segle XX, les xarxes més que humanes i l’impacte de les entitats materials no humanes han guanyat protagonisme, tant en les ciències socials com en les informàtiques. En les ciències socials, van sorgir una gran quantitat de conceptualitzacions per descriure estructures complexes, dinàmiques, heterogènies i no jeràrquiques d’entitats materials i no materials, humanes i no humanes, congruents i contradictòries. En informàtica, el naixement d’internet i l’aparició posterior de la World Wide Web també van atraure l’atenció dels científics cap a les xarxes. Més tard, l’arribada de la internet de les coses (Internet of Things o IoT) va contribuir a un canvi en la percepció predominant d’internet, que va passar d’una entitat immaterial a una xarxa d’objectes materials interconnectats. Els media artists crítics exploren l’agència de les entitats no humanes i de les xarxes híbrides que aquestes mateixes xarxes articulen amb diversos agents. Alguns d’ells fan servir objectes materials interconnectats per iniciar intervencions estratègiques en la intersecció de l’art i l’activisme. En aquest article, estudiem les obres de mitjans tàctics que incorporen objectes quotidians materials i augmentats tecnològicament. Tractem els objectes materials com a entitats que consten de tres dimensions: socials, artístiques i tecnològiques, i ens centrem en les diverses xarxes dinàmiques articulades entorn d’aquests objectes. Investiguem les accions i interaccions de les entitats implicades, que tenen com a resultat una transformació de la xarxa emergent. Demostrem que aquestes accions i interaccions estableixen esferes espaciotemporals a petita escala, en les quals es redistribueixen les relacions de poder. L’article comença amb una revisió de teories socials i filosòfiques seleccionades que van introduir nous termes, topologies i conceptes per descriure xarxes més que humanes. Després es passa a l’avanç de les tecnologies de xarxa, i es posa tota l’atenció en la materialitat d’internet i la internet de les coses. Finalment, examina xarxes més que humanes, les seves transformacions i el paper dels objectes materials en les obres de mitjans tàctics mitjançant l’anàlisi de dos casos pràctics seleccionats.

Caterina Antonopoulou, Universitat d’Atenes
Artista i investigadora multimèdia. Actualment és professora d’art multimèdia en el Departament d’Arts Digitals i Cinema de la Universitat d’Atenes. La seva recerca estudia la materialitat de l’art digital centrant-se en obres de mitjans tàctics, socialment compromeses i estratègiques. La seva obra artística explora les històries (en el sentit de les seves històries i relats, en anglès histories i stories) i interaccions socials quotidianes, a través d’una apropiació creativa, crítica i lúdica de les tecnologies, dels objectes oposats i dels fragments narratius. Té un doctorat en Art Multimèdia per la Universitat de l’Egeu (Grècia), un màster en Arts Digitals per la Universitat Pompeu Fabra de Barcelona i un diploma en Enginyeria Informàtica per la Universitat Tècnica Nacional d’Atenes.
