El mes d’abril de 2020, Dalila Honorato va convidar les artistes Robertina Šebjanič, Louise Mackenzie, Karolina Żyniewicz i Isabel Burr Raty a desenvolupar una recerca sobre «Mantenir-se en contacte: comissariar l’art postcoronavirus» com a part de la residència d’art digital Braiding Friction. El grup, que va treballar de manera remota des d’Eslovènia, el Regne Unit, Polònia, Bèlgica, Grècia, els Estats Units d’Amèrica i Portugal, va desenvolupar una ficció especulativa en què l’art és el virus i les professionals de l’art actuen com a treballadores en primera línia. Atès que van entrellaçar pràctiques d’art històric i contemporani, d’arquitectura i bioart, el grup va crear futurs en potència per a espais d’art postpandèmic, la qual cosa va resultar en un relat fictici d’una sèrie d’exposicions d’art que coincideixen amb un episodi de pandèmia. La recerca es va sintetitzar en forma de pseudodocumental, que es va estrenar en el projecte BioFriction del programa Creative Europe el 23 de juliol de 2020.
En aquest article es presenta la transcripció del pseudodocumental Staying in Touch [Mantenir-se en contacte] (Honorato, Mackenzie, Żyniewicz, Burr Raty, Šebjanič i Tavares, 2020, des de les 00:00:00 fins a les 00:47:55), ambientat el 2039, un relat ergòdic construït com un exercici de joc de rol autoetnogràfic per a les col·laboradores, en què els alter ego –Vess L, Arri Val, K-130, Soladite Carnelian i Anise Neuchâtel– reflexionen sobre els seus comissariats abans, durant i després de la pandèmia. Encara que el relat es basa en moltes influències acadèmiques i contemporànies, totes les referències a esdeveniments històrics, persones i llocs reals s’usen de manera fictícia. La resta de noms, llocs i incidents són producte de la imaginació de les autores, i qualsevol semblança amb fets reals, llocs i persones, vives o mortes, és pura coincidència. Pavel Tavares va editar Staying in Touch amb l’ajuda de Cultivamos Cultura i hi va incloure els cameos de les artistes Marta Menezes, Yann Marussich i Adam Zaretsky. Aquest article és, en essència, un estudi de cas de recerca artística de la possibilitat de la participació interactiva durant el confinament per la covid-19.

Louise Mackenzie, Artista independent
Artista que treballa en la pràctica de l’art visual contemporani, en el nou (bio)art, en pel·lícules i en so en els mitjans. En la seva recerca, explora el concepte sobrehumà del material viu per mitjà de la pràctica artística participativa, que es basa en processos i estudis de ciència feminista. Membre del grup de recerca The Cultural Negotiation of Science, de la Universitat de Northumbria; associada de l’Institut de Medicina Genètica de la Universitat de Newcastle. Doctorat en Belles Arts pel BxNU Institute, una associació del BALTIC CCA i la Universitat de Northumbria. Ha participat a RE:SOUND 2019, Dinamarca; TransImage 2018, Edimburg; ISEA 2017, Colòmbia; ISEA 2016, Hong Kong; Leonardo LASER, Londres; i a Sonic Environments 2016, Brisbane. Robertina Šebjanič, Artista independent
Resideix a Ljubljana, Eslovènia. Artista internacional exhibida i premiada. El seu enfocament en la recerca artística se centra, des de fa diversos anys, en la cultura, la (bio)política, la química i la biologia de les realitats d’entorns aquàtics, la qual cosa li serveix com a punt de partida per a investigar i abordar les qüestions filosòfiques sobre la intersecció de l’art, la tecnologia i la ciència. Sovint, les seves idees i els seus conceptes es fan en col·laboració amb més persones mitjançant la integració interdisciplinària i informal del seu treball. Va rebre una menció honorària al Prix Ars Electronica 2016, va estar nominada al premi STARTS 2016 i al premi White Aphroid. També va ser una de les artistes de la SHAPE platform 2017. Ha estat artista i investigadora resident, el 2018, a l’Ars Electronica (EMAP / EMARE); el 2019, a l’RV Celtic Explorer en el marc del projecte Aerial/Sparks; i, el 2020, a Galway.

Karolina Żyniewicz, Universitat de Varsovia
Artista (es va graduar el 2009 a l’Acadèmia de Belles Arts de Łódź, en el departament d’Arts Visuals), investigadora i estudiant de doctorat (programa de doctorat en Estudis Transdisciplinaris de la Cultura i la Naturalesa, a la facultat d’Arts Liberals de la Universitat de Varsòvia). Quan treballa en un laboratori, principalment a l’Institut de Genètica i Biotecnologia de la facultat de Biologia de la Universitat de Varsòvia, situa els seus treballs en el camp del bioart, encara que intenta evitar l’ús d’aquest terme. La seva activitat liminar la veu com una producció de coneixement situat. Se centra, sobretot, en la vida en el seu ampli enteniment (el seu significat biològic i cultural). Els seus projectes tenen un caràcter principalment conceptual i crític. El principal punt d’interès de la seva recerca de doctorat són les relacions multinivell, que sorgeixen durant els projectes liminars, i mira de presentar les seves observacions com a artista i investigadora (ser liminar) en el context de la teoria de l’actor-xarxa, de Bruno Latour, i les humanitats feministes en els Estudis de Ciència i Tecnologia.

Isabel Burr Raty, Artista i cineasta
Artista i cineasta que treballa entre Brussel·les i Amsterdam. Li interessa explorar els intersticis entre allò orgànic i allò artificial, entre el coneixement no autoritzat dels grups minoritaris i les cultures dominants. Professora d’Història de l’Art Mediàtic a l’Escola de Recerca Gràfica, investigadora a Nadine-WAB V, a Brussel·les, i membre del jurat convidada d’Autonomous Design Master KASK Gent el 2019-2020. En el període 2018-2019, va obtenir la subvenció Package-Deal Grant de bioart i disseny, la qual cosa la va portar a associar-se amb Waag i Mediamatic, a Amsterdam. Les seves obres d’art entrellacen l’art en viu i les instal·lacions dels nous mitjans, fet que convida el seu públic a desmuntar les categories fixes de comprensió de la producció i a experimentar els beneficis d’incorporar la ficció científica en temps real, com Beauty Kit Female Farm. Els seus treballs i les seves col·laboracions s’han exposat en l’àmbit internacional, com al Palais de Tòquio, a París; Royal Flemish Theater, Brussel·les; ISEA 2016, Hong Kong; i Eco-Futures, Londres. Actualment està treballant, amb l’ajuda de The Media Fund, en la seva segona pel·lícula, en què exposa l’impacte del colonialisme al poble de Rapa Nui, a l’illa de Pasqua.
