Analysis of environmental data visualization projects from the perspective of art, science, and technology studies

The text presents four artistic projects aimed at visualizing and sonifying environmental data, addressing issues such as urban pollution and climate change, conducted by the author in collaboration with scientists and technologists. The primary contribution of the text is the analysis of each project through the lens of art, science, and technology studies, while considering actor-network theory and “scientific exchange zones”.

Kepa Landa, Polytechnic School of the University of Lleida
He graduated and received his doctorate from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Cuenca (UCLM). He has combined teaching (currently at UdL, previously at UEM, UOC, UCLM, IED, UWCN) with management roles at artistic production centres (Medialab Madrid, Intermediae-Matadero Madrid, Arteleku Donosti-San Sebastián), as well as curating and publishing projects such as ((RAS))) or Futuros Emergentes. His artistic production has focused on the possibilities of understanding our mediated environment, employing various media including photography, video, installations, the internet and the visualization and sonification of data. His work has been exhibited in group shows at the Reina Sofía Museum, Medialab Prado (Madrid), Patio Herreriano (Valladolid), Centre d’Art Santa Mónica (Barcelona) and festivals such as Intangible (Lleida), Moovy Tanzfilmfestival (Cologne), Stockholm Dansfilmfestival and Danza em foco (Brazil Online).
