ABRIU is an annual scientific journal edited by Estudis Gallecs i Portuguesos, Universitat de Barcelona (Galician and Portuguese Studies, University of Barcelona). Its goal is to offer to the academic community a space for debating textuality (literature, films, scenic arts, music...) in the frame of Brazilian, Galician and Portuguese. Each issue consists of a monograph, along with miscellaneous articles, and editorial book reviews. It  is published simultaneously in print and electronically with free access.

No. 14 (2025): Open the field: cultural flows in Galician and Portuguese

María Alonso Alonso e María Xesús Lama (eds.)

In this monograph, we present contributions that respond to a call to explore cultural experiences that have emerged with the aim of establishing links across the border, some of which were presented at the 14th International Congress of the International Association of Galician Studies Horizontes dos Estudos Galegos e/na Lusofonía (University of Minho, April 2024). They address issues such as how linguistic differences affect and what role translation plays, how mutual interest is manifested in the cultural press, how territorial and linguistic peculiarities are represented in creative works on both sides of the border, and how this is represented and what consequences it has on literary systems.

The Miscellany includes studies on some graphic narratives, the cinema of Margarita Ledo, works by Sophia de Mello Beyner and Clarice, or the Brazilian ballad tradition. The Open Space presents a preview of Manuel María's collection of letters and new text bu María Victoria Álvarez Ruíz de Ojeda. We want to celebrate Castelao's 75th anniversary by presenting some forgotten texts collected from the American press.
