Open scientific knowledge, dissemination and access to academic production: Ideas for a discussion

In this special issue, we invite submissions addressing topics related to open knowledge, considering the following key components on which significant progress has been made, as well as other aspects to discuss in light of the evolution of open science in recent years: a) Open access to scientific production: policies in favor of open access; b) Diamond journals; c) Preprints and overlay journals; d) Open research data: management and preservation; e) Open infrastructures and interoperability; f) Models for evaluating scientific activity based on open science and responsible metrics; g) Training and skills in new careers related to science and data management; and h) National or institutional policies to promote, foster, and implement open science in all its components.

Author Biographies

Remedios Melero, Consejo Superior Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC

Remedios Melero is a doctor of Chemistry at the University of Valencia and works as a researcher at the CSIC Institute of Agrochemical and Food Technology. He is a member of the scientific committees of Redalyc and Scielo Spain. Associate editor of DOAJ and coordinator of the Intellectual Property Commission of Amelica. She is part of the Spanish Open Access to Science research group. Since 2005, he has participated in national projects and European projects related to open science, all directly related to all aspects that affect open science and how to contribute to its implementation through the training and promotion of open knowledge. Its research topics are open access to publications, open access policies, institutional repositories, copyrights and copyrights, and research data management.

Alejandro Uribe Tirado, Universidad de Antioquia

Social Communicator-Journalist. Doctor in Library Science and Scientific Documentation from the University of Granada (Spain). He works as a professor-researcher at the Inter-American School of Library Science of the University of Antioquia (Medellín-Colombia) and is current coordinator of the research group “Information, Knowledge and Society” attached to the Information Science Research Center –CICICINF– of that same institution, and of the institutional Open Science Commission. His research lines are: open science, information literacy, scientific communication, open access, altmetrics, science 2.0, knowledge management and ICT. He has published different articles, presentations and books, in different organizations and publishing houses.

Clara Armengou, Directory of Open Access Journals, DOAJ

Project Manager and Science Communication Officer. Experience in the scholarly publishing industry. She worked at Cambridge University Press as an Open Access Project Manager until 2015. She also works in science communication as a freelancer at the University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. In last ten years of professional experience she have been involved in education, research and publishing.I have managed science communication projects and coordinated new trends in academic publishing, translation and education. I am particularly interested in e-learning, MOOCs, Open Access and Open Data. From 2016, She is Project and Communications Manager at DOAJ.
