Reform efforts in science education at all educational levels in the last thirty years have emphasized the need for
more actively engaging students in the construction of their own understandings. In particular, it is expected that
students will not only acquire fundamental knowledge, but also learn how such knowledge is developed from observations
and measurements. In this contribution we describe a set of activities guided by this educational philosophy
and implemented in a general chemistry course at the college level.
