Breathe for Ella: artivisme, interseccionalitat i detecció de la contaminació de l’aire

argumento que Breathe:2022 desmarginalitza el discurs existent sobre la contaminació de l’aire intervenint en l’espai públic i emmarcant la contaminació de l’aire com una experiència encarnada i interseccional. Aquest document contextualitza Breathe:2022 en relació amb una política contemporània de governança atmosfèrica després del cas tràgic d’Ella Kissi-Debrah. Sostinc que el retrat artístic de Goodwin de la respiració mostra una condició processal d’exposició que ressitua el coneixement de l’aire en el cos que respira. En fer-ho, el treball suggereix un possible canvi de paradigma en les narratives de la contaminació de l’aire, mitjançant el qual els coneixements fenomenològics de la respiració i la dispnea podrien millorar, corroborar, posar en perspectiva o tenir en compte els mesuraments científics de la qualitat de l’aire. Per  orientar aquest enfocament, presento la noció d’interfícies respiratòries com a zones materials i afectives (edificis, cossos i mitjans digitals) en què les qualitats de l’aire es fan palpables i en què els cossos i els mons s’uneixen. Tornant a Breathe for Ella, en la conclusió, faig patent les forces d’esperança i incertesa respecte al llegat de l’artivisme de Goodwin i les seves campanyes relacionades.

Lucy Sabin, University College de Londres

Està completant un doctorat en Geografia a la University College de Londres amb finançament de la London Arts and Humanities Partnership. La seva recerca explora la qualitat de l’aire, les condicions atmosfèriques, les experiències de respiració i les exposicions desproporcionades a la contaminació. Sabin té un màster en Recerca en disseny de comunicació del Royal College of Art. Ha ensenyat teoria de mitjans, estudis culturals i disseny gràfic a la Universitat d’Arts Creatives, la Universitat d’Arts de Bournemouth i la Universitat de Sussex. Sabin també treballa com a artista de mitjans mixtos i ha estat premiada en el programa DYCP de l’Arts Council d’Anglaterra.
