Twenty years teaching translation technologies: approaches and perspectives

Main Article Content

Marcos Cànovas

The answers to the question of what has changed in teaching translation with technology introduce issues such as the need for curricular renewal or the consideration of the links between translation skills and technical skills. This article analyses the students' perspective and how they deal with changes in technological environments. It includes training for post-editing, reflecting on the role of computer-assisted translation tools and machine translation in teaching, how this relates to professional practice, the evolution of the resources provided by technology and the role of virtual environments in collaborative learning. These reflections lead to the consideration of technologies as an essential element for professional performance, but based on training that provides the value of well-founded human intervention, that is, training in which these technologies must be the vehicle for a practice that solvently incorporates the appropriate linguistic and translation skills.
