Carlos Casares y la autotraducción

This article delves into the activity as a self-translator of Carlos Casares, an important Galician narrator of the last decades of the 20th century. After showing the permanent interest of Casares for the translation as a translator of other texts, as a promoter of translations and even as an intellectual who reflected on it, the evolution observed from allograph translation to self-translation is explored in the step of his works from Galician to Spanish. The fundamental features that characterize Casares’ self-translating work are addressed: loyalty to Galician literature, extreme zeal in his use of the target language and acting as a translator rather  than as an author. Finally, two unfinished self-translations of his story book Vento ferido are analyzed, with the titles "El juego de la guerra y otros cuentos" and "El cumpleaños feliz de
Ricardo Romero".
