Abstract
The current evolution of means of transport has allowed a significant number of people to work in one country and reside in another geographically bordering one. They are called cross-border workers. Spain maintains border labor ties with France, Portugal, Gibraltar (United Kingdom), Andorra or Morocco.
The situation of these workers requires special social protection, taking into account that the country of domicile is different from the country in which the gainful activity is carried out and many benefits that substitute wage income, such as unemployment, are linked to the residency requirement. Although this is not a new debate, it is once again topical due to the incorporation of this contingency in the protective action of domestic workers by Real Decreto-ley 16/2022, of September 6.
