Decadence-bound game-fictional worlds encourage the player to play out the era of human destruction. In some of these dystopias it is still possible to inhabit a character and for the player to participate in the events of his or her life to the point of constructing a comfortable space in which to feel protected. However, doing so through the eyes of a helpless animal, with strict performance conditions, pushes him or her towards a heightened vulnerability that is repulsive to the player. That is, the familiar and traditionally safe space of the video game can hide obscurities or resistances to the player’s progress and provoke a felt pain, even though it is not a real experience, that makes it an emotionally unsafe place. In this research we address the discomfort and displeasure towards the ecosystem in game fiction delimited by moral frames derived from the play experience, the ethical design and the cultural, ethical and moral values of the player.
