Lluïsa Julià

This article analyzes the role of the feminist writer, journalist, and publisher Carme Karr (1865-1943). It delves into her early years at Joventut (1902-1906), and describes how from her experience at this magazine, and her participation in the group she felt a part of (Apeles Mestres and Lluís Via), she develops her most popular narrative work –Bolves [Volves] i Clixés– while, at the same time, she initiates her career in Journalism where she will become a professional with a unique voice. It also analyzes her participation at Or i Grana (1906-1907), Diario de Barcelona (1909), and Feminal (1907-1917), the magazine she founded and directed. The analysis of these publications allows us to follow the polemic she maintained with Eugeni d’Ors, as well as her friendship with Joan Maragall. These literary elements are reflected in the collection of letters that Carmen Karr and Joan Maragall exchanged (1904-1911), which provide a canvas for her true personality to be revealed, exhibiting her singularity among this first generation of feminist writers.
