Increasing world integration is dramatically changing the relationship between local and global while, at the same time, deeply restructuring the spaces. However, new movements are emerging which reinforce nationalism and minority cultures; they have no definite borders but are confronting to a completely defined world from the political point of view. Europe could be a good example: the integration process has weakened the rigidity of frontiers but, at the same time, it has opened questions on territorial representation, placing in the agenda the debate on identity and diversity. This paper presents the theoretical bases and methodology of an exercise on European cultural diversity through the analysis of the mismatches between the political map and the cultural identities of European territories.
