Abstract
The following reflection takes as its starting-point the film (and book) A Monster Calls (dir. J. A. Bayona, 2016) to discuss the interventions and premises about family social education suggested by this work. The scenes, characters and situations in the story enable us to reflect on and critically analyse various forms of intervention based on work with families. The book describes several themes linked to this activity, including family typology, communication patterns, risk factors and protection factors. Similarly, it proposes forms of intervention by social educators. This paper discusses aspects of the theory of social education with families from the perspective of a contemporary film and suggests new ways of understanding family intervention, providing an alternative space for reflection and reflection by social work professionals.
