Abstract
The article seeks to provide a useful basic summary of the situation in which the different religious traditions and the new religious movementsfind themselves as a result of the phenomenon of modernity and the secularization of institutions in the social and historical contexts
that determine them. Through its presentation of the elements that mark the separation between religiosity and secularity and its exposition of the specific particularities of the world’s great religions and of the new religious movements with regard to this social paradigm, the article puts forward a framework that encompasses the state of religion in the world today as a basis for understanding the relationship between religious experience and socio-educational action within the perspective of religious pluralism.
