Abstract
Since the first report of the National Observatory on Violence against Women in 2007 the need for increased research into gender violence and fuller evaluation of its prevention has been recognized. With these goals in mind, in 2010 and 2013 two studies were carried out at the Spanish state level on gender equality and prevention of gender violence during adolescence, both of
which adopted a procedure based on consensus and cooperation. Comparison of the main indicators reveals an increasing rejection of sexism and gender-based violence, as well as the admission of having suffered it or exercised it. These
results reflect the need to increase the amount of work being done to raise awareness within families of their role in overcoming sexism and preventing gender violence, in the understanding that sexism and violence are not biological
inevitabilities but cultural products, in which an inherited social model based on domination and submission is reproduced.
