Abstract
Participatory evaluation is a methodological strategy that promotes the involvement of all of the stakeholders associated with a given programme or project — not just those with a technical or professional role — in its assessment and in the taking of joint decisions that may help to improve what is being evaluated. A considerable body of research supports the idea that participatory evaluation is a learning process that benefits both the individuals involved and the organizations within which it takes place. The design of a qualitative research exercise for the monitoring of three processes of participatory assessment of community actions in three Community Development Plans in Catalonia was the basis for interviews with the women responsible for running these community plans, who act asfacilitators of the evaluation. The article sets out the pedagogical elements that emerge from the relationship between these community development managers and the other people involved, most of whom are local residents and professionals
working in the communities.
