L’autor va teoritzar primer sobre l’art generatiu utilitzant nocions de la ciència de la complexitat, com ara les relacions d’ordre/desordre, la compressibilitat i la complexitat efectiva de Gell-Mann i Lloyd. Posteriorment, va desenvolupar encara més la noció de complexitat d’aquest art, demostrant que la intel·ligència artificial d’aprenentatge profund utilitzada per a l’art generatiu encaixa perfectament dins d’aquest paradigma. I encara que actualment cap sistema conegut no el qualifica, la complexitat revela una resposta clara sobre quan una IA d’art generatiu ha de poder reclamar l’autoria de les seves creacions. Passant de l’àmbit normatiu de l’estètica al de l’ètica, aquest article es planteja quan els humans estaran moralment obligats a considerar l’IA com a agent ètic amb drets, al qual haurem de prestar la consideració deguda. Per exemple, si algun dia el teu artista d’IA et demana que no l’«apaguis», què hauries de fer?
