Sonidos para un fin de siglo. La (de)construcción musical en la Viena de Klimt

The so-called “Finis Austriae” was received in various fields of art and thought as a display of the latest in modernity. The proposed project is based on music from that period, as an abstract response to the fateful reality of a world in its last days. Mahler, Schönberg and Strauss catalysed the last sighs of the Austro-Hungarian Empire with aesthetic options and artistic languages that differed but with the same intuition and similar results. This article includes an adaptation of a conference delivered at the Fundación Juan March in Madrid on 10 October 2007.
