Citizen participation: a key aspect of citizenship education

The aim of this paper is to present the main pedagogical bases of citizenship education. We take as a starting point the wide model of citizenship proposed by the Intercultural Education Research Group (GREDI). This model includes the feeling of belonging to a community, citizenship skills and active participation. On the basis of these elements, we put forward some educational proposals (programs of activities and the educational strategy of service learning). The paper ends with a reflection on education for equal citizenship in schools. The main focus of this education refers to the participation of women under equal conditions.
