During the past fifty years the areas in which visual communication is applied and its supports have increased several times over. Today it captures and expresses typography, images, sound, data and actions in a static and dynamic way.
Thanks to information and communication technologies (ICT), graphic design is discovering new mechanisms and formats, creating new branches and specialities, and generating new rules.
Issue number 29 of Elisava Temes de Disseny intends to reflect on the workings and perception of these new languages, to explore to what extent modern communication media influence the various areas of graphic design, and to examine whether established rules are still in force as new theoretical principles are being consolidated.
