Cumulative learning and interactive classes implemented: the case of Econometrics I at USC

The main purpose of this article is to share not only the methodology developed but its results at classes of Econometrics I, a core subject of the new degree in Economics at the USC. It is worth saying that this degree has been implanted for the first time in this academic year (2009-10).
As an essential part of the methodology, we must highlight the activities done at the interactive classes that try to involve and help the students to assimilate, interpret and understand Econometrics as an empirical tool for economic analysis. This practical approach is achieved through the possibilities of the interactive classes with the support of the Virtual Campus, opposite to the traditional magisterial classes based on a theoretical approach that does not encourage students’ participation. We present the description of the activities’ methodology. Finally, we show the results of this methodology obtained from an evaluation questionnaire posed to the students. It should be said that the students demonstrate high levels of satisfaction with this kind of methodology against the magisterial classes, although it has meant a change of their learning system.
