A new reading of the Book of the lover and the beloved as a literary instrument for contemplation

The metaphor of the lover and the beloved is emblematic of Ramon Llull’s work. In the Book of the lover and the beloved, this metaphor is set in a fictional narrative through which Llull presents an ars contemplativa by example. This paper puts forward a reading of that narrative,
dwelling in particular in its literary value as a tool for contemplation.
