In this article we inform about a research on the evaluation of the subject of History in Secondary School from a selective focus that was carried out in Catalonia between January 1999 and May 2000. It was commissioned by the Consell Interuniversitari de Catalunya concerned, among other matters, with establishing a fair measure in the transition from the curriculum in secondary school to the one at university. Their authors intended to verify the hypothesis that the tests of objective correction, in what relates to average, had the same measure as a test of open essay. Since, by definition, the subjectivity of the corrector in this type of tests is not significant at all, the former were proposed as more fair and accurate for the discriminative evaluations of a selective type of the tests conducted to accede University. Other targets of the research were analysing the inner reliability of these tests, as well as the degree of difficulty of their application and, finally, establishing a system for a process of teamwork to elaborate questions, therefore defining a model of organisation. In the article we present, therefore, a theoretical frame applied to the subject of History, the model and base for the specifications frame, the process of designing the test- which did not have for this subject any precedent out of those acquired with memory and/ or factual – its application to a sample of pupils and, finally, the analysis and interpretation of the results. In our conclusions we show the verification of the hypothesis and make several reflections on the didactic virtuality of this type of evaluation in the process of History learning.
