Joaquim Marià Salvañà i Comas (Mataró 1828, Barcelona 1902) was a pharmacist and naturalist who published botanical, entomological and malacological works. He began in the natural sciences in 1858 with the publication of a list of plants in the municipality of Mataró. In 1870 he published a catalogue of insects in Mataró (Apuntes para la geografia y fauna entomológicas de Mataró). He worked as a pharmacist in his hometown between 1851 and 1874. In 1873 he entered the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona and in 1877 he published the first of a series of works on malacology, a specialty to which he devoted himself until almost the end of his life.
