Josep M. Fulquet Vidal
In this article, Dr. Josep M. Fulquet briefly describes what the theory of reception has been since Hans Robert Jauss published in 1967 'Literaturgeschichte als Provokation der Literarurwissenschaft (Literary History as a Challenge to Literary Theory)', a book that introduced a change of perspective in literary studies research, as it presented the concept of "aesthetics of reception", which highlighted the significant role of readers in the reception of the literary work. Then, and following patterns established by such illustrious authors as Jauss, Gadamer, Barthes or Eco, among others, the author gives some clues about the "context of experience" in Catalonia in the last third of the 19th century, which made the entry of Shakespeare's plays into the country possible, about the authors involved, and about how these plays, as translations, were graduallyi incorporated into the native literary tradition.
