El discurso orientalista en la traducción francesa (1927) del Bushido de Nitobe

Bushido: The Soul of Japan, by Inazo Nitobe (1862-1933) is an example of a native’s pioneering work to make the Japanese culture known in the West and to explore its values and concepts through the ethical code of the Samurais. We examine the influence of this work on the image that western people has of Japan in the twentieth Century and the influence of the context and pretext: both, in the source text and in the first translation to the French by Charles Jacob. The French translation of 1927 appeared in the interwar period characterized by the rise of the militarist propaganda as well as the flourishing of Japanese studies, which since the XIX century have had a deep influence in the French culture.
