Este libro es una crítica al humanocentrismo, el especismo y el bienestarismo occidentales. Se centra en tres rubros específicos. Primero, la historia de la filosofía respecto a los animales desde la Antigüedad y hasta nuestros días. Segundo, la objetivación de los animales, en el que se discute el modo de producción capitalista como causante del dolor, sufrimiento y muerte en los animales. Tercero, una crítica a la razón bienestarista como alternativa incorrecta para la construcción de una ética y derecho animal.
