El tráfico es una práctica criminosa presente en todo el mundo y desafía los organismos gubernamentales y, por veces, puede desestabilizar los Estados, no solamente por los maleficios del crimen, pero también por la criminalidad conexa. También impacta negativamente las especies amenazadas, los medios de subsistencia de las personas y el desarrollo social y económico.
