Abstract

Triethyl methanetricarboxylate, HC(CO2Et)3, is a pronucleophile used in order to achieve chain elongation  and ramification. In the present paper, it has been coupled to the C6 position of mannose in a one-step synthesis, via the Mitsunobu reaction, in 71% yield. The synthesis provides a direct and rapid route to a product that might be further used to obtain mannose analogues with various functional groups (e. g. carboxylic acids) in C6 position.
