Abstract
The amoxicillin is one of the most prescribed antibiotics for treating different type of infections, and it has been found levels in mg/L in urban wastewater. Anaerobic processesare known for their high performance and tolerance totoxic compounds; however, their utilization in water that contains antibiotics and other pharmacist compoundsis still scarce and in conclusive. The purpose of this study was to determine the specific methanogenic activity(SMA) of anaerobic sludge from the wastewater treatment plant El Salitre (Bogotá – Colombia), using amoxicillin assubstrate in concentrations of 5, 60 y 120 mg/L. The test had a duration of 480 hours under intermittent agitation. The results showed that SMA values for 5, 60 y 120 mg/Lof amoxicillin were 0.163 gCOD/gTVS.d, 0.218 gCOD/gTVS.d and 0.485 gCOD/gTVS.d respectively, and on the ethanol was 0.614 gCOD/gTVS.d. Further, it was observed a good adjust of the Gompertz’s modified model to the experimental results in the studied conditions.
