Abstract

The chemical reactivity of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl system of synthesised substituted chalcones have been utilized for the synthesis of variously substituted benzodiazepines by the reaction of O-phenylenediamine (OPDA).
In the present investigation we have carried out the reaction
under both conventional method and microwave assisted organic synthesis (MAOS) technique in presence of basic alumina / silica gel. The results of this procedure when compared to conventional method, demonstrate the versatility of the solid phase microwave assisted process resulting remarkable rate enhancement and dramatic reduction in reaction time, with better yield.
The structure of compounds are supported by spectral and analytical data. The structure-activity relationship of synthesized compounds have also been studied.
