Salvem-nos (tots) del soldat Ryan: el projecte ideològic de Steven Spielberg

Main Article Content
Unanimously considered by the critics as the masterpiece of Steven Spielberg, held by the audiences to a movie of real commitment, and lauded by the industry itself with a large number of Osear nominations, Saving Private Ryan is the first of a series of films which, with the excuse of revisiting a particular genre, hope to lay the foundations of a new approach to the whole area of historical films. This article attempts to put [orward an ideological criticism of the text, starting with the analysis of certain characters and certain dramatic moments of the film, and with the examination of certain contextual paths of exploration. Both lines of reflection reveal that behind the apparently documentary nature of a film which has been promoted as a truthful document free of ideology, there lies a rhetorical strategy which takes Saving Private Ryan to the same level as any master work of the cinema of propaganda.
