This article discusses the generation of methodological models for ceramic analysis focused on the creation of reference collections. It is exemplified with our studies of pottery-making based on the identification of fracture patters. Hence, we developed an experimental strategy using ethnographic pottery and reproductions built with different techniques. In this way it was possible to test the reliability of our methodological strategy to study archaeological pottery and establish a referential framework which further supports our interpretations.
