In the last century, contemporary art has proposed new challenges and difficulties to the critic, moving away from the formal discour-se and entering almost entirely into the conceptual one. The critic had to adapt to these new premises, becoming no longer just a descriptor, but adapting to criteria that adhere to the epistemo-logy of translation and its complexities, with extensive intervene-tion from the philosophy of art. The aim of this essay will be to deepen and reveal, through the in-depth study of the activity of two contemporary art critics, Lea Vergine and Massimiliano Gioni, the links between the practices of art criticism and those of translation, to investigate how the philosophy of art merges with or distinguishes itself from criticism in contemporary art and according to which social authority the critic becomes a translator of concepts.
