Photography as a means of communication is based on a series of codes and principles. When we see a photograph on a newspaper page, we can no longer judge it individually; we have to consider the relationship between the photograph and the text. This article describes how the visual relationships between immigrants and locals are established, how we deal with stereotypes, and how we can ‘normalize’ immigration through photography.
