The aim of this article is to reflect on developments in Ergonomics and to offer proposals for improvement applicable to the schools of Catalonia. The article explains the framework of macroergonomics adapted to the work of the teacher, as a multi- and interdisciplinary science that includes distinctive elements in constant interaction. It also applies participatory ergonomics as a strategy for intervention and presents the results of a number of studies, undertaken by members of the research group, concerning morbidity and accidents among teachers, the perception of risks and opportunities for their health and an assessment of the current situation. Proposals are made for introducing improvements in the schools and, finally, a questionnaire is presented for the observation of the ergonomic features of schools.
