Salomó Marquès
The author describes his experience as a teacher and researcher in seeking to recover a collective memory of education in areas that remain cloaked in silence: specifically, the cleansing and exile of republican schoolteachers in Catalonia during the republic. Emphasis is placed on the need to retrieve this episode in history by drawing on the direct testimonies of those involved. The article discusses the advantages and shortcomings of this type of research and stresses the positive aspects of biography and eye-witness accounts both for teaching and the recovery of local history.
