This article examines the repercussions of the new theoretical scenarios related to the development of the concept of risk in the Second Modernity. The traditional analyses of school violence or the positive management of conflict have constituted –and indeed still do constitute– important points of reference for the analysis of safety in schools, but the development of a new concept of human safety that has arisen from the UN Development Programmes offers a wider framework for thought. Adopting this perspective, we seek to develop a model that allows us to understand how the perception of risk is constructed in the context of the school.
