About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Temps d'Educació is a scientific and academic journal that publishes work on pedagogy, education sciences and teaching in all spheres and at all levels. To this end, perhaps not in each issue but certainly in the journal as a whole, Temps d'Educació balances attention to different content, scientific areas and lines of research, which it reports on at an international level. As a university publication, it is particularly committed to ensuring the scientific rigour and the intellectual standard of its content.
In our opinion, the institutional nature of this publication demands an approach to our discipline that is not so much neutral as plural. At the same time, we also believe that the journal has to commit to a particular modernising and critical pedagogical approach. This is not, however, at odds with the commitment to rigour and science that is required. Moreover, the editing team may not always agree with the interpretations and approaches of the content of all the articles it publishes. Its goal is to ensure that the articles display a sufficient degree of intellectual quality, without interfering with the interpretations or evaluations made by each author in their work.
Temps d’Educació has the following key objectives:
- facilitating and stimulating communication, interdisciplinary approaches and scientific discussion between the different fields of work and disciplinary areas of education sciences;
- being open as a scientific institution to the community whose research, thinking and practice form the foundation of the education sciences.
The content of the journal is comprised of unpublished articles in Catalan, Spanish or English, organised into the following sections, which may not all appear in every issue:
- Monographs: certain topics of study approached from a range of perspectives to offer the reader an interdisciplinary view.
- Dossiers: special-focus topics covered in each case by at least three specialists with respect to a particular issue.
- Studies and research: empirical and objective studies based on qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
- Pedagogical experiences: life stories of important figures that systematise a certain aspect of education or pedagogy.
- Reflections and essays: articles of an interpretative, hermeneutic, anthropological and historical nature.
- Lecture notes: in-depth reviews and comments on key recently published works.

Technical coordination
Publications and Editions, Universitat de BarcelonaEditorial process
All the texts submitted to the journal have to comply with the norms stipulated in the publication guidelines. When an author submits an article, they implicitly accept the criteria and requirements that govern the participation process. The journal accepts no liability for the ideas and opinions expressed in the articles.
Once the article has been received, a thorough editorial review is conducted to ensure that the formal aspects and content comply with the publication guidelines and other requirements.
Next, two respected experts are appointed to carry out a blind peer review. They assess the suitability of the article and make suggestions. The authors are notified of the results of the external evaluations.
The articles that successfully pass this evaluation phase are then sent to the technical team to begin the layout process, in which the texts are adapted to the journal’s publication format.
Lastly, the article is published in the corresponding issue of the journal on the website.
The editing team may contact the authors at any moment during this whole process to request any modifications to articles that may be required.
The Editorial Board reserves the right to make any relevant modifications to the texts, in the course of applying the publication guidelines, which are available on the journal’s website.Frequency of publication
Temps d'Educació is published twice a year, in January and July, carrying the articles accepted in the preceding period.
Financial expenses of the editorial process
No expenses are incurred by the author for sending articles to the journal or for the processing and publication of the articles.

Journal History
The journal Temps d’Educació (ISSN printed edition: 0214-7351; ISSN electronic edition: 2014-7627; Legal deposit: B-23.289-2012) is a digital and printed journal of the Publications Section of the Institute for Professional Development–Institute of Education Sciences of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB).
Temps d’Educació was founded in 1989, under the patronage of the UB’s Education Sciences Division. Over the years, it has been directed by Dr Jaume Trilla (1989–1992), Dr Margarida Cambra (1993–1996) and Dr Conrad Vilanou (since 1997). The journal has always advocated education as one of the key challenges of our age, in line with the successive declarations made by international bodies over the last few decades. While it preserves its humanistic vein, it is aware of the changing times and embraces its role as a chronicle of the pedagogical movements of each age, looking beyond mere circumstantial fashions.
The journal is open to the entire university community, not just the UB. Its key characteristics are: its generalist topical scope, which encompasses the whole spectrum of pedagogy and educational sciences; its rigorous, modernising and critical spirit, which does not attempt to compete with scientific or current affairs journals and rates such journals very highly for the great work they do in the field of education; and, lastly, its pluralist approach that aims to respect the range of different sensibilities and provide a platform for all currents of thought, upholding its commitment to research and practice. In short, continuing to embrace the tenet of the first issue, the journal strives to combine an open and pluralist approach with reflection and action to create a platform that brings current thinking, pedagogical research and educational practice all together in one place.
