Today, design is increasingly identified as an activity that is inseparable from market and consumption tendencies. Design is understood as an instrument directed towards the development and implementation of creativity, which is the necessary axis of innovation - innovation constituting one of the principal means of any developed economy.
The complex of relationships between design and the creation of new forms and products defines the concept of innovation, in its psychological as well as in its social aspects.
Through the different essays included in this issue of ELISAVA Temes de Disseny, its authors confirm that creativity and innovation have become dimensions of design with an increasingly important value. From a perspective ranging from the humanities to technology, focusing on historical or contemporary references, all contribitions coincide in proposing a reflection towards the concepts of design and innovation.
