Focus and Scope
SORT- Statistics and Operations Research Transactions —formerly Qüestiió— is an international Open Access journal launched in 2003 which does not charge publication fees. It is published twice-yearly, in English, by the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat). The journal is co-edited by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Universitat de Barcelona, Universitat Autonòma de Barcelona, Universitat de Girona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat de Lleida and Universitat Rovira i Virgili with the co-operation of the Spanish Section of the International Biometric Society and the Catalan Statistical Society. SORT promotes the publication of original articles of a methodological or applied nature motivated by an applied problem in statistics, operations research, official statistics or biometrics as well as book reviews. We encourage authors to include an example of a real data set in their manuscripts.
Peer Review Process
All articles submitted to thematic sections will be forwarded for systematic blind peer review by independent specialists, except for those articles specifically invited by the journal or reprinted with permission.
Authors can preprint their manuscripts during the submission process and showcase their work to the global research community, before it is accepted or published. This can be done in any non-commercial preprint server such as archiv.
Publication Frequency
SORT is published twice a year. Journal waits for the totally of articles that will compose a number to publish it online and in paper format.
Open Access Statement
The journal SORT provides immediate and free access to the full text of articles, following the principles of the open access movement, according to which anyone can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full text of articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose. SORT does not apply any fee either for manuscript submission or article publication, encouraging scientific dissemination.
Copyright notice and author opinions
Authors transfer the exploitation rights of their works to the journal. The Institut d'estadística de Catalunya holds the copyright ownership of the contents published in the journal. Authors may deposit a copy of their works in repositories, as specified in the self-archiving policy. Published articles represent the author's opinions; the journal SORT does not necessarily agree with the opinions expressed in the published articles.
Self-archiving policy
The journal SORT allows the deposit and dissemination of the published version of the contributions in any institutional, subject and/or multidisciplinary repository. The repository must contain the information about the publication in the journal and the corresponding link. The journal allows the deposit and dissemination of article preprints, but recommends being linked to the published version.
Archival system
The Library of Catalonia (depending on the Government of Catalonia) periodically records SORT website and stores it indefinitely in the repository PADICAT (Patrimoni Digital de Catalunya: https://www.padicat.cat/).
Statement of ethics and good practices
As a journal co-edited by the Universitat de Barcelona, SORT declares that follows its "Declaration of Ethics and Good Practices for Scientific Journals"
Indexed in
SORT is indexed in the "Science Citation Index Expanded" (Thomson Scientific) and described in the "Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences". The journal is also referenced in the "Current Index to Statistics", the "Índice Español de Ciencia y Tecnología", "Statistical Methods and Abstracts", MathSci of the American Mathematical Society ("Current Mathematical Publications and Mathematical Reviews") and “Scopus”. In 2013, SORT has also renewed the certificate of excellence given in 2011 by Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología which guarantees publishing and scientific quality.

Journal History
SORT represents the third series of the Quaderns d'Estadística i Investigació Operativa (Qüestiió), published by Idescat between 1992 and 2002, which in turn followed from the first series "Quaderns d'Estadística, Sistemas, Informàtica i Investigació Operativa" (1977–1992). The three series of Qüestiió have their origin in the "Cuadernos de Estadística Aplicada e Investigación Operativa", published by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya until 1977.
