Scales and steelyards are widely used and spread in Roman times. However, many aspects related to management and supervision are still little known. The two steelyards found in Parma in 1953, both with stamp, offered the opportunity to examine the functioning and production of this type of instrument. The epigraphic data, together with the archaeological and technical-functional analysis of Steelyards, have also allowed to reconsider the meaning of the rule of the mensores.
