The doctor and archaeologist Giovanni Pagni was sent to Africa to treat the Bey of Tunis Murad II; during his stay he collected many objects from the Roman period, which enriched the collection of Cardinal Leopoldo de’ Medici. Thus, more than twenty Latin epigraphic texts arrived in Florence, and soon after they found their place in the entrance of the Uffizi Gallery, in the so-called ‘Ricetto delle iscrizioni’. The object of our study are two milestones of the collection, both dated around the middle of the 3rd century AD, and most likely relevant to via Carthagine -Theveste.
