In the report of the second half of 2023, we highlight the dismantling of the language policy that had fostered the normalisation of Valencian in recent years. Despite the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Law on the use and teaching of Valencian, weaknesses in its text, delays and hesitations in its implementation and the striking down by the courts of several policies arising from the Botanical Gardens Agreement paint a bleak picture for Valencian as a language in its own right. The suspension of teaching in Valencian in Spanish-speaking territories, the abolition of various institutions and the pressure exerted on the statutory powers of the Valencian Academy of Language are good examples of this situation, improved only by the amendment to the Regulations of the Spanish Congress of Deputies allowing the use of Valencian as a co-official language. The article also mentions promotion action and onomastics.
