A review of the 5 monolingual Italian dictionaries on the Internet derived from paper dictionaries: the Nuovo De Mauro, the Sabatini-Coletti, the Garzanti, the Gabrielli and the Vocabolario Treccani in several volumes. The characteristics that they share and in which they differ are presented. We then introduce the virtual learning environment called "Explore (with) the Digital Dictionaries" (which adopts Maple T.A., an automatic assessment system that can be consulted at the link http://esploradubblica.i-learn.unito.it/). It consists of brief guides on how to use the dictionaries, of reading comprehension activities, of lexical exercises and of "grammar of the word" to be carried out with the help of digital dictionaries.
