Spanish and Italian in the second generation of Spanish-speaking migrants in Italy

Main Article Content

Maria Vittoria Calvi

Starting fron a corpus of 30 sociolinguistic semi-structured interviews in Spanish with young immigrants from different Latin American countries (Peru and Ecuador above all), this study examines: 1) the main tendencies concerning language uses and attitudes, with particular focus on the perception of the contact; 2) some examples of the presence of Italian in Spanish, especially in morphosyntax and lexis. In the framework of discourse analysis, the language contact phenomena, such as borrowings and code switching, will be seen as strategies which the speaker uses in order to express a plural identity in different communication situations.
