[eng] The role of Édouard-Alfred Martel as promoter and pioneer of modern European speleology is indisputable. Within
his extensive literary work, the book “La Spéléologie ou science des cavernes” (1900) deserves to be highlighted, because it
constitutes a brief manual on the subject made with a noticeable synthetic and modern approach. This book includes several
mentions to caves on the island of Mallorca which are analyzed and contextualized throughout these pages. The mentioned
caves are basically Coves del Drac, although Coves del Pirata and Cova des Pont are also referred to, all of them located in
the municipality of Manacor; about these cavities, some genetic comments are made as well as a few considerations on their
speleothems and climatology.
